SymbolArts was founded in 1986 by Utah-native, Mike Leatham, when he set out to establish a company that could provide both creative design and high quality finished products in the custom ring market. His efforts grew into a company that not only produces rings, but other types of high quality jewelry – badges, coins, patches, pins, key chains, collectible items, corporate goods and more. For several years, Mike operated the business with its primary focus on the LDS religious products market.

In 1994, SymbolArts recognized the opportunity to expand into the public safety market by applying their creative design and jewelry quality manufacturing standards to badging. The Company entered the public safety market by producing a limited number of badges for a small number of departments that were commemorating the Utah State Centennial. The company's reputation for "jewelry quality" products soon led to rapid and widespread recognition both inside Utah and on a national level.

SymbolArts now sells public safety products in all fifty states. Although SymbolArts has operated in this market sector for less than ten years, the company has earned respect from customers and competitors alike.

SymbolArts has also developed within two other significant markets – coorporate recognition and commemoratives, and special event licensing (such as the Olympic Games, NCAA, and State and Local Government Commemorations). SymbolArts has made significant contributions to assist in the commemoration of events such as the Utah State Bicentennial, the Utah Pioneer Sesquicentennial, the California State Sesquicentennial, the Wisconsin State Sesquicentennial, the Ohio State Bicentennial, the New Millennium nationwide, September 11 Fallen Heroes, and the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games, as well as scores of smaller county and city commemorations.

In 1996 and 1997, SymbolArts was recognized in the “Inc. 500” list of the fastest growing private companies in the United States under its former company name, Ringmasters. Recognition also came in 1997 and 2002 in the “Utah 100” for being in the top 100 growing businesses within the state. 

Today, SymbolArts' employees operate a very successful and growing business nationwide. SymbolArts offers a number of different insignia products to the public safety, special event, and corporate markets, including but not limited to badges, patches, belt buckles, rings, pins/tie tacks, key tags, key chains, awards, plaques, nameplates, coins, medallions, corporate and religious jewelry items, and a vast array of accessories.
