Why do I wear my wedding ring on my left hand?

The fourth digit or ring finger of the left hand has become the customary place to wear a wedding ring in much of the world. Why is that?

It stems from a 16th-century Tudor (a prominent European royal house of Welsh origin that ruled the Kingdom of England from 1485 until 1603) belief that the left-handed ring finger was connected by a vein directly to the heart.
