What is The ABLE Project?

_______

The Georgetown Law Center’s Innovative Policing Program, partnering with global law firm Sheppard Mullin, created the Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) Project to teach officers the tactics and strategies of active bystandership, to prepare officers to successfully intervene to prevent harm (to themselves and others), and to create a law enforcement culture that supports peer intervention.

The ABLE Project serves as a national hub for training, technical assistance, and research, all with the aim of creating a police culture in which officers routinely intervene as necessary to prevent misconduct, avoid police mistakes, and promote officer health and wellness.

How can I support ABLE?

_______

ABLE offers organizational giving levels of $25K (Bronze), $50K (Silver), and $100K (Gold). Mastercard, Verizon, Sheppard Mullin, and the American Arbitration Association are current Gold sponsors. If your organization is interested in helping ABLE bring this transformational, evidence-based training to law enforcement agencies across the country, please visit law.georgetown.edu/IPP/ABLE.  You will find an “ABLE Sponsors” link there as well as a host of information about the program.

Where can I find out more about ABLE?

ABLE Pin
$3.00
What Is The ABLE Pin And How Do I Use It?
The ABLE pin is a great way to promote awareness of your agency’s participation in the ABLE Project.  There are a number of different ways to use the pin.  Some agencies will want to make them available to every officer who has been ABLE trained; others may want to share them only with instructors, ambassadors, and others who go above and beyond to help ABLE succeed.  Whomever they are shared with, the ABLE pin is a graphic representation that the wearer is ready and willing to intervene in another officer’s conduct to prevent harm, and, as importantly, the wearer authorizes others to intervene in his/her own conduct.  The ABLE pin, which is 1" and displays the colorful ABLE logo, can be purchased with an “Ambassador” designation without additional charge.

ABLE Challenge Coin
$8.00
How Do I Use My ABLE Challenge Coin?
ABLE coins are available only to law enforcement agencies accepted into the ABLE Project and to ABLE organizational sponsors (Bronze, Silver, and Gold).  How you use the coins is up to you.  Some agencies will use them as an understated but personal way to recognize a positive instance of bystandership by an officer.  Others may use the coins to reward officers who play a meaningful role in infusing the principles of ABLE throughout the agency or the community.  Still, others may decide to share coins with community partners.  Sponsor organizations may elect to give the coins to ABLE volunteers within their organization.  However you use it, the ABLE coin will be a warmly-received and long-cherished way to say “Thank You” or “Good Job.”

More About the ABLE Challenge Coin & Pin

_______

The ABLE Project has partnered with SymbolArts to create a stunning challenge coin fitting the transformative mission of the ABLE Project.  Reflecting its commitment to ABLE, SymbolArts not only is making these coins available at a significant discount, but also will donate a percentage of its proceeds back to the ABLE Project. The ABLE Project will use these funds to support ABLE’s core mission of providing free active bystandership training to law enforcement agencies across the country.

Can I Tailor the Coin or Pin?

_______

The basic ABLE coin is designed with the colorful ABLE logo on the front and “Notice. Decide. Act.” on the reverse.  The coins are 1 ¾,” full color, die cast.  Agencies looking for a more personalized feel, can replace the wording on the reverse with the agency badge, the city seal, or even tailored text like “Instructor,” “Partner,” or “Community Supporter.”  If you are an organizational sponsor of ABLE (Bronze, Silver, or Gold), you can tailor the reverse of the coin to display your organization’s name or logo.  Tailoring the back of the coin requires a $100 one-time fee (to cover the creation of a unique mold), but does not impact the price of the coin.

The ABLE pin, which is 1" and displays the colorful ABLE logo, can be purchased with an “Instructor” designation without additional charge.
